Meditation Hermitage Retreat Center
The Hermitage Meditation Retreat Center is a place for inner contemplation, meditation, prayer, and retreating for time of solitude and introspection. It is nondenominational and open to all people who are in need of seclusion. This is my dream and I am investing to make this a reality for myself and others. I have been looking for such a place in Kentucky but could not find anything easily accessible or open to the public. The basic principles of this center are holistic and self sustainable. The plan is to acquire a remote piece of land, quiet and peaceful, build a number of shacks, each just enough to serve as a temporary dwelling and all the basic needs for a retreatant year round. There will be a central solar powered unit, water collection chamber or well, vegetable and fruit garden, and an outhouse. Contact me if you are interested in getting involved in this project or if you have expertise which can be of use for the Hermitage Meditation Retreat Center.
Fundraising in Stages
If you know of a way to make this fundraising process better and transparent to the public please share with me how to do this or contact me if you are interested in getting involved in the project. The process is to be done in stages, from buying land to building dwellings and farm, water, outhouse, to solar power.
Transparency, Honesty and Trust as principles from the Foundation
It is my vision that from the very beginning all financial aspects of the retreat center are to be available to all so that all money is used most efficiently and so that anyone interested in copying and establishing a similar retreat center elsewhere can do so by referencing everything here as a potential blueprint. It must be as easy as social networking for each donors to see exactly how their money is being used, as well as in the context of the entire project. If you have expertise in this area, please help me make this transparency ASAP.
I am looking to collect $30,000 to purchase a sizable piece of property at approximately $1000 per acre to get 20 - 30 acres of forest and tillable land total.
Solar Power will provide electricity for the center needs. Approximately $10,000 are needed to set up a good off-grid solared power system. $4000 for Unisolar or PV panels, and $6,000 for charge controllers, batteries, etc.
Each hut/shack/dwelling will be a small personal unit independently located at a reasonable distance from other huts to maximize solitude for each retreatant. The approximate cost for each dwelling will be $5,000 - $8,000. It will contain one small room and an area for cooking. The building will be placed on an ondol heating foundation. Ondol has been used in Asia, and particularly in Korea for cooking and heating purposes. The design of an ondol heating system is such that the cooking stove is simultaneously a heating unit, capable of channeling the heat of the fire underneath the house floor, heating stones in the process, and escaping out of the chimney or exit hole. The heated stones then keep the home warm or even hot for an entire day or more, even in blizzardly cold weather. These are relatively easy to construct.
It is my goal to make the retreat center available to all people regardless of their financial situation. It is important that it is completely free, and that only freely given, well intentioned, donations are accepted. The Center must be financially self sustainable. In order to make this possible it may be necessary to have a source of revenue to help pay for maintenance fees. This revenue can come from selling crops from the land, and artwork.
Water will come from a rain water collecting tank, or well depending on whats available. Water may need to be purified.
Hot water will come from a Solar water heating system. Additional hot water may be heated on the fire available in each retreatants cabin. Cost is $4000
The out house is cabin/closet sized building with a simple hole in the ground for human waste disposal. As in the old days, after doing ones business, some sand is dumped on top of the waste. Cost is $3000
